About Myself

To give a thing a name, a label, a handle; to rescue it from anonymity, to pluck it out of the place of Namelessness, in short to identify it - well, that's a way of bringing the said thing into being.

Hanna Segal 1918 - 2011

My name is Salma Bhatti. I am of Asian Pakistani origin, born, raised and working in London. My cultural background has allowed me to explore questions of identity, homelessness, disruption, impermanence, otherness, dislocation, invisibility and hyper visibility.

I am a member of the Philadelphia Association. It was set up in 1965 by R D Laing, John Heaton and colleagues to challenge accepted ways of understanding and responding emotional suffering.

My educational background includes a Master of Arts in Cultural History; Certificate in Play Educational Learning and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training. I am registered with United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapists (UKCP).

I worked for many years at Mind, the mental health and wellbeing charity, and continue to work in the charity sector. I work privately with individuals and couples in clinical practice as a psychotherapist and counsellor.

Other themes that interest me include creativity, spontaniety, sexuality, thought, learning, unknowing, ritual and illusion.

The primary influences in my work as a psychotherapist are Bion, Kierkegaard, Freud, Winnicott.
